Inter Milan beat AC Milan to seal early league win.
Inter Milan won the “Milan derby” 2-1 against Milan, Italy, in the early hours of the 23rd (Korean time). Inter Milan won the league early on, regardless of the results of its five remaining matches, with a gap of 17 points from Milan.
Inter took the lead by scoring the first goal in the 17th minute. Benjamin Pavard headed a corner and Francesco Acerbi, who flooded into the penalty area, headed it into the net. The first half ended with Inter leading 1-0.
Inter opened up the lead with an extra goal early in the second half. Marcus Seram, who brought the ball from the side into the center, fired a low shot towards the left post near the penalty arc to score the extra goal. Tomori Fikayo’s header in the 34th minute allowed the rebound, but he managed to maintain a one-goal lead until the end.
Three red cards were handed out for extra time in the second half. First, Milan left-back Theo Hernandez and Inter right-back Denzel Doomfries collided. Players from both teams rushed to block the two players as they fought by grabbing each other by the collar. The referee took out the red cards for both Hernandez and Doomfries. Shortly before the match ended, Milan defender Davide Calabria was sent off for punching an opponent in the face during a corner kick contest.
It is Inter’s 20th career win in the league. Inter have not lost their lead all season with 27 wins, five draws and one loss. They have not lost a single game since losing 1-2 at home to Sosuolo on Sept. 28 last year. They went 22 wins and five draws in 27 matches, reclaiming the top spot three years after the 2020-2021 season, when they won under Antonio Conte. In the 2021-2022 season, they finished second to Milan, and in the 2022-2023 season, they finished third behind Kim Min-jae’s Napoli and Lazio.
This is the second trophy of the season. Inter won the Italian Super Cup last January by beating Napoli 1-0. Although they struggled in the Copa Italy and the UEFA Champions League, they successfully finished the season by winning league titles. Starting next season, the team will play with two stars on its emblem. Italy receives one star for every 10 league wins.
