15 hours of flight, 20 hours of travel to waiting time. Even so, I unpacked my luggage at the accommodation and immediately started training.

The Korean women’s national baseball team arrived after a long flight on the 7th (Korean time) in Thunder Bay, Canada, where the qualifiers for the ‘2024 Women’s Baseball World Cup (WBSC)’ were held.

Some players couldn’t sleep properly on the plane. Due to the 13-hour time difference between Korea and Korea, the day and night changed, so it was clear that he was tired. During the 20-hour run without rest, I couldn’t even stretch my legs and lie down.

Nevertheless, as soon as the national team arrived at the lodging, they went to the playground and had their first training session. National team coach Yang Sang-moon said, “Even though I am tired, I can sleep soundly today only if I sweat. Even if your body is heavy until tomorrow, you have to move your body like this so that you can maintain the best condition on the day of the game.”

The faces of the players, as well as the coaches and coaches, were clearly tired, but the training atmosphere was full of laughter. The players focused on relaxing their stiff bodies on the plane without showing any dislike. The coaches also joked with the players and led training in a pleasant atmosphere.

During the team’s training, the Mexican women’s national baseball team, the opponent for the final match of the preliminaries, passed by. The Mexican team showed their vigilance by sneaking a peek at the national team’s training. Meanwhile, the Hong Kong and Australia national teams, which are scheduled to enter Canada with similar flight distances as the Korean national team, are gathering on the final stage by posting news of their departure on the 6th.

After dinner after the first training session, the team was given a honey-like rest. However, some players took bats and practiced their swings without rest.

Infielder Kim Hyun-ah said, “It’s a routine, but I took swings with some players to check my condition so I wouldn’t forget my feelings.”

The national team arrives at the accommodation at around 5:30 p.m. on the same day, starts training at 6:10 p.m., has a simple dinner, stretches its feet and rests, and official training is scheduled the next morning. It is the first Group A match between South Korea and Hong Kong.
